Positive Workplace

How to create, lead and maintain a mentally positive workplace

Mental health challenges are frankly the pandemic we don’t talk about. It is estimated that 1 in 4 of us will need a medical intervention to deal with our mental health at some point in our lives. When we talk to leaders around the globe, one of their most common challenges is “how do I manage and support people with mental health issues? How do I engage with them in an appropriate way?” The residual taboo around mental health makes this a difficult thing to do. It also feels like we have competing corporate agendas - drive high performance but also manage mental health. How do we square that loop?

In a world of ESG (Environmental Social Governance), meaningful mental health programs in the workplace are not only the right thing to do but also the mark of a respectful and human employer. It’s good for brand and productivity. Indeed, the World Health Organisation have calculated that for every $1 spent on mental health there is a $4 return. In speaking to leaders, we know that they often feel exposed and ill equipped when it comes to conversations around mental health. Also, when we teach High Performing Teams, we insist on covering Mentally Positive Workplace as well. It’s a duty of care to be mentally positive if you are deliberately going to push people to their limits in order to grow them and your business.

This 60 minute session discusses:

- what a mentally positive workplace is.

- why it is actually a high performance workplace with appropriate support;

- how you as a leader can be a role model to break the taboo around mental health and open dialogue in a positive, proactive way, not just when something goes wrong.

- Perhaps most importantly, it will share how to facilitate a positive conversation with a colleague around their mental health. The subject of Neurodivergence is rightly very prominent at the moment. The scientific world is constantly learning more about the subject and revealing its full associations.

1 in 7 of us are neurodivergent and this has huge workplace implications.

- This session will also cover in meaningful detail what neurodivergence is how organisations can successfully embrace it.

This session is great for:

Leaders and colleagues of all levels, Well Being and Inclusion specialists and frankly anyone who wants to create a mentally positive workplace. It is also a great session for anyone who has responsibility for organisational culture and leadership development.
